So like most of the population, I’ve been hitting the gym to start off the new year. I even went to the gym last Tuesday when it was 9 freaking degrees outside (then caught the plague and couldn’t move without coughing). But I’m not going to any gym. I’m going to Pure Barre aka 55 minutes of torture that I still like enough to keep going plus I already paid for it so I might as well go. Pure Barre is a ballet-inspired workout class that is similar to yoga and pilates but with weight-lifting thrown in. I read a lot about it from several other bloggers and was curious to try it. I purchased a new client one month pass that allows me unlimited classes.
The first few classes are confusing. At the studio I’m currently attending, a lot of the women are not new. They glide through the choreography with ease. I just kind of look around and mimic what everyone else is doing. They’re bending and twisting in their Lululemon and Splits 59 gear. I’m sweating and puffing like an Eastern European wrestler in my Target yoga pants because there is no way in hell I’m paying $100 for yoga pants. The instructor offers positive encouragement by telling me I’m doing a move well. If I could breathe, I would laugh at her.
If you try out a class, you’re not going to know how to do every move. You’re going to be confused about the moves (like how do you squeeze your thighs and tuck in your hips at the same time?). Your body is going to shake so badly you will want to fall on the floor and never get up. Your ass cheeks will burn with a fire that is the most glorious pain you have ever felt. But that’s okay. I can’t do a plank for 90 seconds. To be honest, I’m not entirely sure how to tuck. I’m trying, and for me, trying is better than doing nothing.
Any of y’all take Pure Barre classes? Do you like it?

Never tried it! It looks intimidating.

I’ve done quite a few Barre classes, and it’s a love/hate relationship. The classes are awesome, but it is SOOOO much harder than it looks!

I would love to try a Barre class- but the only studio near where I live has gotten TERRIBLE reviews and I’ve been a little wary of it. Plus, I dont feel like driving 45 minutes to the other side of town to try a different one.

This sounds like a class id be very interested in. After I get a little bit into shape first. How long are the sessions?

This definitely sounds interesting!

I hate feeling like I’m the only one in the room who doesn’t know what I’m doing, so I actually avoid gym classes because of that.. sad, I know! I prefer running because I know how to do it correctly already! haha!

I would love to do this, but there aren’t any close to me. I am always the one who doesn’t know what they are doing, but I love going to classes anyhow.
