Our Georgia bucket list

I realized yesterday that I never put up our Georgia bucket list. When we moved to Colorado, I decided to make a bucket list of things to do while we lived there. Life happened (Mac was gone basically every month while I did my Master’s on the weekends), so we weren’t able to cross everything off that list. We’re a year into our second time at Fort Gordon, and I’ve assembled our Georgia bucket list. The goal is to cross all of these off before we leave.

Our Georgia bucket list

Check out Savannah (again)

We went to Savannah on vacation back in 2013 and visited last year when my parents came to visit. It’s a fantastic city that has done a much better job than Augusta in embracing their history and cultural heritage. Both of our visits came in the dead of summer, and I would love to go back when it’s not 90 degrees. Savannah hosts one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, so we may check that out. Also, my hard drive died in 2014 and erased most of my Savannah photos, so what kind of blogger would I be if I didn’t go back to get more photos?

Hike the Appalachian Trail

Remember when this was on my “to do before we move” list for North Carolina? It never happened. The AT actually starts in Georgia, and I think it would be cool to hike the head of the trail. This will need to be a fall or spring adventure.

Visit Lake Oconee

Did you know that there’s a Ritz Carlton in the middle of Georgia? It’s at Lake Oconee and seems like a fabulous resort. I would love to take an overnight or weekend trip there. If Mac were in a unit that held balls or formals that spouses could attend, I would totally lobby that we host an event there.

Spend a weekend in the Golden Isles

People don’t really associate Georgia with the beach. Georgia has barrier islands like North and South Carolina and beaches like Florida (makes sense, right?). We went to the St. Simon’s Island Food and Spirits Fest last year, and we absolutely loved it. Given that it was over a three-hour drive, we decided that we’ll go back to make a whole weekend of it and explore the area even though the event isn’t happening this year.
