Mac doesn’t get too many long weekends in this course, so we decided to make the best of this one. Friday, we headed up to Atlanta and caught the Braves game. It was El Oso Blanco night in honor of Evan Gattis. Sadly, as the back-up catcher, Gattis wasn’t in the starting line-up and only came in for a single pinch-hit opportunity (and then he was intentionally walked). But Mac enjoyed the free t-shirt and foam bear claw. Funny enough: the ticket taker at the gate commented to me that he thought all the white bear (you know, Oso Blanco) stuff was a Coca Cola promotion. I got my Waffle House, and the Braves won 2-1.
Saturday, we kind of lounged about our hotel before the Virginia Tech game. DragonCon, a comic / sci-fi convention, was down the street from our hotel, so we had prime people / character costume watching real estate. We might’ve have to hike two miles each way to Turner Field, but we could see the GeorgiaDome from our room. Score. Our original plan to was tailgate at Taco Mac, a bar in Philipps Arena, right next to the Dome. It was beyond packed, so we headed next door to Dantanna’s. We managed to get a huge table after about 25 minutes of waiting. We made friends with some older alumni, and they joined us until we left for the game.
Our goal is to be able to afford an insane tailgating trailer like this. |
We sat club level on the Tech sideline and had to deal with the typical obnoxious “Oh, I’m a Bama fan” bandwagoners, including the family in front of us, none of whom were wearing any team gear. BTW, saying Roll Tide does not make you a fan. The game went as expected: we lost. Overall, we played pretty well on defense. Our offense just couldn’t get enough momentum to work with, and our special teams gave up two touchdowns. We stayed until the end then walked back to our hotel, which had allowed us to keep our car in their lot. Given the cost of rooms this past weekend, we just drove home and got back around midnight.
Sunday and Monday were spent relaxing at home. We spent plenty of money going to Atlanta, so we just chilled at home. I managed to come down with a crippling migraine, so I popped some Tylenol PM and tried to go to bed early.

We share the exact same feelings towards alabama band-wagoners!

I had to laugh at your Alabama comments. My fiance and his family are huge ‘Bama fans (his home is about 45 minutes from the university) I suppose some of the spirit has rubbed off on me and I’m one of those fans that has almost no team gear. Glad you had a good weekend though!

What a great weekend, minus the rude “fans” and your migraine.
