As I discussed here, we decided to do our own flowers. Our Fifty Flowers order arrived the Wednesday before the wedding and a customer service rep called within an hour to verify 1) we received the correct flowers and 2) the flowers were in good condition. All was well, and I filled up some containers in our guest bathroom tub. I had a slight freakout that we only had half the red… View Post »
How quickly we forget
Jane at Taingamala (a fellow Alpha Gam!) just posted about going on a business trip after her hubby returned from deployment. It really it home with me because Mac has been gone for the past three weeks. The year that Mac was deployed, I adjusted to being alone. I created routines that helped me deal with sometimes crippling loneliness and depression (these may or may not have included drinking a… View Post »
Gifting our guests
In the grand world of wedding favors, you have loads of options. Candles, cooking utensils, barware. So what did we want? Originally, I set my heart (and wallet) on these adorable acorn candles. I thought this was a cute, subtle nod to my sorority. The cheapest I found these was around $2.25 a piece. Together forever, that’s it in a nutshell. Ohemgee. Love. After some deliberation, I decided that candles… View Post »
A Taste of Virginia Tech
I just received my copy of A Taste of Virginia Tech. Oh.Em.Gee. I LOVE it. The cookbook has thick, glossy pages with fantastic photos and a great mix of recipes from Blacksburg restaurants and from Virginia Tech’s Dining Services. For those of you unfamiliar with Tech, our Dining Services (the group in charge of all food on campus) consistently ranks in the top three to five nationally. The years we… View Post »
This bridal party was made for walking
Please enjoy our processional music. Pastor Cook, Mac, and BM El Cunado walked in from the side of the gazebo. Since two of the grandmothers have walkers, we didn’t do a traditional “seating” of them. Mac’s parents headed down the aisle first. Next down the aisle was Mama, escorted by GM Shann. Next was BM JBenz. Followed by BM Antlers. Finally, MOH Sister. The music changed, and my dad and I… View Post »
The calm before the ceremony
After a few portraits, we walked down the brick path to the Gazebo. Mac, Pastor Cook, and El Cunado waited by the side path, while the rest of us headed for the back of the main lawn. We saw a fair number of guests walking in and taking their seats. My wonderful DOC, Vivian, found me and told me that the party bus was en route but stuck in traffic. We decided… View Post »
Our wedding recaps: our first look and some portraits
I managed to make it through getting dressed without a nervous breakdown. Mac and his groomsmen were dressed and wandering around. My bridesmaids and photographers headed outside for a few pictures while my mother wrestled a safety pin out of my bustle. From there, we had our official “first look.” Mac and I saw each other several times on our wedding day, so our first look wasn’t a big surprise. He turned… View Post »
Our wedding recaps: getting ready and last minute chaos
My mom and I got stuck in traffic driving to the Botanical Garden. Ughh. I was freaking out that I was going to be late to my own wedding. I arrived and quickly squished myself in to the bodyshaper then unceremoniously handed my ladies their gifts. For some reason, my bridesmaids weren’t dressed yet. They zipped each other up while I pulled my dress out. Our photographer arrived and snapped… View Post »
A new day is dawning
Wedding day dawned bright and early. I might have been excited. This helped reduce stress. I have been anxiously stalking the weather for ten days. My worries about rain were quelled. I showered and dried my hair without any product, per my stylist’s request then headed out to Michael’s to grab a few more containers (since I only had ten). Interestingly enough, I was not the only gal walking in the… View Post »
