Wonderful weekend
And it’s Tuesday already. Whoops.
Saturday, Mac and I ventured up to the gorgeous Pinehurst Resort for St. Barbara’s Ball. The 18th Fires Brigade reserved rooms at a discounted rate, and we wound up checking in around 12:30. Much to our surprise, we would be staying in a two-bedroom condo out on Pinehurst Lake instead of one of the hotels at the main property. After stepping out on the deck, we decided that we would be more than happy living there. The weather was A.MA.ZING. 65 degrees and sunny with a light breeze. Gotta love December in North Carolina.

We loafed around (and I neglected to photograph our condo), got ready, and then caught a shuttle back to the Carolina Inn.

First up was an awards ceremony bestowing the Honorable Order of St. Barbara on various commanders and senior NCOs. Fun story: Mac was nominated for the Order, originally approved to receive, then, at the last minute, the award was cancelled. So late, in fact, that his name was printed in the program as one of the recipients (to add insult to injury, they misspelled “Mackenzie.”). After the awards and a receiving line, we mosied outside to the bar, chatted with some friends, and then found our seats.
We were entertained by the All-American Chorus (then got yelled at to stop talking), waited about three or four hours to eat dinner (during which I had six or seven drinks), and learned how to Wobble. Mac was exceedingly tired, so we called it an early night. Sadly, he couldn’t escape me serenading him to K-Ci and JoJo’s “All My Life” whilst I was losing my voice.
You’re welcome.
