So this past Saturday, my long run was 8 miles. The weather was kind enough to rain steadily while staying around 50 degrees. Fun. I attempted a cold bath afterwards to try and decrease my soreness. It was rather torturous. But I have not had anywhere near the stiffness and soreness I had last week. I was beyond starving during my bath, and I realized that I’m going to need some sort of energy supplement for my long runs. There are several kinds of supplements, but I’m leaning towards sports beans. They’re basically jelly beans, and I think they’ll be easier to eat than the gels and wafers other people use. I’m going to try the Jelly Belly brand first.

I have a few other things I need to get. First off is a running water bottle. I don’t drink a lot of water at a time and holding a plastic water bottle is really awkward. I’m looking for a small-ish one that has a handle or strap.

I also want to get a shirt. My BFF swears by dry-fit ones, but I kind of want a ridiculous half-marathon shirt.

What gear do y’all take on long runs? Do you have any recommendations?

When I was living in NYC, I would run in my neighborhood to Astoria Park which lines the East River and had great views of Manhattan. Now, I’ve been pretty bad with running here in Virginia! My husband and I ran around our apartment complex once, but we hope to venture out soon, especially now the weather is getting better!

When I run it’s just me and my garmin. I don’t take a water bottle with me, or any supplements.

I don’t do the running thing, but I love those shirts that you posted. I think I’ve seen one about taking naps or something that I also really liked.

My favorite food to eat are the Clif Shot Bloks… they’re like gummy bears and super yummy! 🙂

I actually eat real jelly beans or gummy bears. They are much cheaper than they sports brands, and work just the same. I also have a garmin and a running belt that I have my water bottle in and my phone/keys. I don’t like having things in my hands so the belt works for me.
