I guess I should recap our Christmas break, right? We decided to go back east to visit our families in Virginia and Pennsylvania. Mac had block leave, so we planned an 11 day trip to maximize our time off. A major part of living away from family is getting yourselves, your cat, and your crap there when you go to visit. I was placing a large Amazon order ($250 in gifts that I paid $50 out of pocket for after gift cards and rewards programs), and the option to join Amazon Student popped up. A full Prime membership for $50 a year? Thanks, grad school. The two-day shipping was great for shipping presents to my parents’ house. I bought probably 70% of our online gifts from Amazon. Considering I pretty much always choose the free economy shipping, getting my orders in two days instead of 5-8 days is amazing. I don’t know why I waited so long (oh wait, it’s normally $99, and I am supremely cheap).
I recapped our travels when I posted about flying with a cat. From my in-laws, we drove up to Baltimore to visit Mac’s granddad and then started the 200-ish miles up to my parents’ house, with our usual stop at Sheetz on the way. While there, we visited my mom’s parents about an hour away and drove the four hours to Columbus to visit my dad’s mom. The unending rain was a super fun perk of all the driving (1000 miles in five days). Back in Virginia, we got to know my brother-in-law’s girlfriend better. She is a friend of my sorority sister (said sister is also my brother-in-law’s best friend’s cousin, confused yet?), and we met her when we stopped in Nashville en route to Colorado last year. She is super nice, and I told El Cunado several times to not blow it. We managed to catch a Caps game, and they won for us. We did our usual NYE party with my BFF, and we’re really cool people the party who left at 12:15 AM. In our defense, we did fly back to the Springs on New Years Day. The trip was fairly exhausting (I really wanted more than a weekend off before going back to work), but it was great to see our friends and family.
How did y’all spend your holidays?

What a fun trip! We drove 10 hours “home” to Missouri, and it went far better than we expected with the baby. We didn’t take our pets that time, though, so that saved a lot of hassle on our part. Thank goodness for friends willing to watch the cats!

Sounds like such a fun trip… and glad you all were able to take 11 days and get away to see family. Makes the holidays seem so much better.

Sounds like you had a great trip! We drove to Florida to see my family for a week and we were supposed to go to Vegas for the second week to see Kyle’s family…yeah that didn’t happen.

So fun! And yes, Amazon Prime was our Santa this year. We can’t live without it.

El Cunado..? Look at you all cultured! LOL I’ve done the Prime trial on a few occasions, but I don’t love it. I’m with you on being a cheap-o though! Not sure if I could manage to spring $99 for it.

Cultured? Lol, no. El Cunado is a reference to the show “The League.” My brother-in-law and I watched it together when we lived in NC.
