The weather this past weekend was spectacular, so Mac and I decided to go exploring. We headed up to the Denver area to explore Red Rocks. Red Rocks is a park containing monolith red sandstone formations very similar to Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. It sits above Denver at over 6400 feet above sea level. The main attraction is the natural amphitheater in the center of it, so it has become a premier concert venue in the state. I actually had never been here. The amphitheater has large stone steps, so the park is a popular place to work out in addition to the several hiking trails. We parked on the street level and climbed the 393 steps to the top.
Remember when I mentioned that I was having asthma issues? Yeah, I forgot my inhaler and was about 90% of the way to a full-blown asthma attack by the time we reached the top. If you’re curious about an asthma attack, it feels like someone is sitting on your chest. Each breath causes a large amount of pain, and you can’t catch your breath. Not fun.
We walked around the main level, checked out the museum, then grabbed lunch in the café. The food is really good (Mac had buffalo tamales while I had a turkey club). We headed down to the street level and hopped on the main trail to check out the Sinking Titanic rock. The trail is very narrow, steep, and rocky. A lot of people had pets and small kids, but I wouldn’t recommend it (if only because you might wind up carrying them). It’s a fun and challenging hike, and we’re hoping to go back for a concert at some point. The only show this season that interests us is the Steve Miller Band, but the sheer amount of weed that will be smoked is kind of a detractor for us.
Have y’all ever been to Red Rocks? What show did you see?

Sorry that you had an asthma attack. That is no fun! That place sure is beautiful. That would make for an awesome concert venue.
