I completely and totally love fruit butters. The flavors are intense and concentrated, and I love the creaminess. I decided to whip up a batch of Crock Pot apple butter one day to use up a bag of apples I had on hand. The recipe is super easy, and it’s basically like overcooked applesauce.
You have a lot of flexibility with this recipe for Crock Pot apple butter. It’s easily adaptable to your favorite apples or how sweet (or not) you want the butter. If I’ve making this to eat as a spread, I add sugar based on how sweet the apples are. If I’ve making this to use as an ingredient, I tend to not add sugar because the recipes will have added sugar. You can also use whatever apples you have on hand or can find at the store. I like to use a mix of both sweet and tart red-skinned apples.
I would also recommend investing in an apple peeler / slicer / corer to make your life easier. Processing each apple takes about 30 seconds, and it’ll save your hands from peeling. I like to finely dice the slices before I toss them in the Crock Pot. You also have the option to mash or blend your cooked apple butter based on your desired consistency. I prefer really smooth apple butter for recipes, so I pour the cooked butter in a food processor and blitz it until smooth. Be sure to let your apple butter cool a bit before you puree it. If you want chunkier apple butter, you can use a potato masher to break up any remaining chunks.

Who knew it was so easy?! Thinking I’m going to pick up a bag of apples when I go shopping tomorrow to make this for the weekend!

I was surprised the first time I made it. It seems so much more complicated. I hope you like it!
