A lot of married bloggers I follow are not employed full time. Many are military wives displaced by several rapid moves or a lack of available positions in their field. Most don’t sit around all day eating bon bons and watching the Food Network (wait, that’s me). Just because we aren’t working 9 to 5 doesn’t mean we’re not doing anything. I know lots of wives who volunteer hundreds of hours every year in addition to caring for families. And just because we’re not working 9 to 5 doesn’t mean we don’t want to work. Personally, I left a 40+ hour a week position because I was miserable, and the thought of going to work every day made me cry. [I was also a frazzled bride-to-be trying to coordinate my menus with my linens, among other things.] I enjoy what I do now immensely (professional food safety training) and wish I could work more (if only to make more money). My current position will travel with us to Georgia and wherever we move afterwards, if I choose to stay with this company, a benefit not a lot of military wives have.
I came across this interesting article whilst perusing Pinterest. “How to Enjoy Being a Homemaker.” Basically, it stresses taking time for yourself to not get bogged down with doing the dishes six times a week or wondering how your husband manages to wear more clothes in a week than the whole state of Texas. Seriously: PT clothes, Army uniform, gym clothes, and home clothes. Me = yoga pants + the same t-shirt for 5 straight days (or until I spill on myself). It’s easy to lose yourself in the daily mundane routine, and these are some interesting tips to avoid that.
For all you fellow housewives, what do you do to battle the every day?

I like “housewife”. Thank God I have the kids to take care of, if I didn’t, I’d go nuts.

i think i am more used to the term “stay-at-home wife/mom”. i guess all the reality shows about “housewives” has left a bad taste in my mouth about the word. either way we do great work and keep things running and functioning while the hubby is doing his part to provide.

Hey Lisa!
Loved this post. I am a nanny for 35 hours a week only 3 days a week. I don’t consider it a job really because I love it.
I am also a home-maker for my fiance and I….who else is going to clean and do laundry. Definitely not Matt. haha
I do like to think that blogging is a part-time job because I enjoy it and it keeps me busy which I don’t mind at all. But it is always going to be for fun!
The term housewife doesn’t bother me either. I like it. ๐
Yoga pants all the way!!!!!!
