This past week, Mac received his official orders to Fort Gordon. Of course, in the Army, these can be cancelled at any time, but we are moving to Georgia! We also had the somewhat shocking realization that April and May are our last two full months in Fayetteville. What? It seems like I just graduated from college, and we moved here. That was closing in on three years ago.
I’ve We’ve decided to capitalize on warmer weather and our limited time here to knock off some last minute trips around the state. We spent last Saturday at the North Carolina Zoo. This is the only zoo in the state, so it has quite a large population base. Accordingly, we spent 40 minutes in line just to get tickets and over 30 minutes in line for lunch. People were every where. Children were every where.
Overall, the zoo isn’t bad. It’s a rather large property (the parking lots alone are over a mile apart). Expect lots of hiking and lots of hills. Bring water. And comfy shoes. My calves did not enjoy the flip flops. Some of the larger African animals have large expanses to roam instead of small enclosures which tends to require more space between exhibits. The zoo also doesn’t have as many animals as you would see in a comparably sized zoo.
We had a good time, even if it was really crowded. The food was decent and staved off total starvation (I kid). We also spent most of the trip driving looking for Bigfoot in the Uwharrie National Forest. Time well spent, indeed.
