Fun fact about me is that I love to read. Somewhere in second or third grade, I discovered historical fiction and biographies. These and the Sweet Valley series made up most of my reading in elementary school. I’m not a “trendy” reader: I’ve never read any of the Harry Potter books, none of the Hunger Games trilogy, and I read the romance novel, The Da Vinci Code, in one day several years after the movie was released. Yes, it is technically a romance novel. The Da Vinci Hoax is quite a scintillating follow-up to the Code (fair warning: you’ll probably need a dictionary for it).
I will admit to reading the first two Twilight novels (GASP, THE HORROR). Why? Back in college, at least half of my sisters in the house had the Twilight books. I was in my suitemates’ room lounging about when my roommate and her gross, smelly boyfriend came back. Suitey and I were trying to not alert them of our presence (lights and TV off, etc), so I grabbed Twilight to pass the time while she studied. I wound up reading half of it waiting for them to leave, so I finished it and read Eclipse. Not exactly stimulating reading material. I couldn’t get into the story, and I stopped there. The movies only discouraged me from finishing the series (sorry, Twihards).
These days, I’ve been weaning myself off of excessive amounts of TLC and Paula Deen by visiting my rather dusty bookcase.
What I’m reading:
Mistress of the Monarchy: The Life of Katherine Swynford, Duchess of Lancaster (courtesy of the Cumberland County liberry)
Founding Mothers: The Women Who Raised Our Nation
What’s next:
Elizabeth & Mary: Cousins, Rivals, Queens. Purchased for my birthday (thanks, Mom and Dad!)
Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee: An Indian History of the American West. I caught the movie on HBO last summer and was instantly drawn to the plight of Indians in our own country. Found the book at B&N.
What are y’all reading? Any good suggestions?

Great post. I love reading about what others are reading š Those are look like interesting books.
Btw, yes, Sweet Valley!! Those are the books that helped me start reading in English. My first language is French, and although I grew up surrounded by the English language, at some point I needed to read it. Why? Because where I grew up, all the good books were English only at that time haha!
Right now, I’m treating myself with reading (for a 2nd time) “Committed” by Elizabeth Gilbert. It’s a treat because I’ve imposed on myself to read mostly French to help with my translation courses.

I love to read! I’ve read most of Alison Weir’s books. If you like her, you’ll probably like Philippa Gregory!

I adore Philippa Gregory! I own all of her Tudor books except “The Kingmaker’s Daughter.” Thanks for reading!

I love all of your choices. I always go for the historical books more than anything. I’m a history nerd. š
