Mac indulged me on our first wedding anniversary, so we attended St. Michael’s Church Sunday morning. I love historical churches (and bonus points for finding Anglican parishes!) and try to attend services when I can (like Easter service at THE Falls Church where George Washington went). We even partook in the church tour (more like an info session) afterwards. The pew where George Washington sat. We walked a few blocks… View Post »
Sunday Social: pet peeves
1. What is your biggest driving pet peeve? People who don’t drive the speed limit. Oh, so you maintained a speed of 45 through a 55 zone and now into a 35 zone. Cool. 2. Biggest Blogging pet peeve? People who join blog hops and don’t look at any other blogs. You have to do some work to get more followers. 3. Biggest general pet peeve? I could write a… View Post »
Charleston, day 3
Our final day in Charleston was still busy. We made reservations to tour the H.L. Hunley, the first submarine used in combat to sink an enemy ship. If y’all go to Charleston, definitely check this out. It’s still being researched and actively repaired. Again, my artillery husband proved knowledgeable. The guide stated that they weren’t really sure why the Hunley’s torpedo had a copper casing. Mac pointed out that copper… View Post »
Charleston, day 2
Because of that whole Tropical Storm Andrea nonsense, we stayed in a bit later on Friday morning and waited for the last of the rain to pass. We started at the Charleston Visitor Center and discovered that Charleston offers free trolley transportation to the major tourist areas. So we headed to the Charleston Museum (which claims to be the oldest in the country) to outlast the rain. From there, we… View Post »
Traveling to Charleston
We decided to head out early to Charleston. Our first stop was the South Carolina aquarium. It’s decent but not very large (and not too crowded). We then walked over the Fort Sumter museum on the mainland. Fort Sumter is an island out in the harbor, so you have to take a ferry out there. After talking with the ticket agent, we moved our tour from Friday morning to about… View Post »
Savannah, day 3
With our last full day in Savannah, we decided to check out Tybee Island and Fort Pulaski. Tybee Island is one of the several barrier islands around the Savannah area. Because we’re crazy and slightly masochistic, we decided to climb the Tybee Island lighthouse. It’s always a bad idea and serves as a painful reminder of how out of shape I am. We popped over to the fort across the… View Post »
Savannah trolley tour, duelist’s grave, and The Pirate House
What to do Day 2 dawned bright and early at our rental. Since we bought all day passes for a Savannah trolley tour, we decided to head out early and make the most of them. We also looked at the map and picked out where we wanted to get off and walk around. We parked at the haunted trolley facility and headed over to the Revolutionary War memorial to the… View Post »
Savannah, day 1
After he signed out of Fort Bragg, Mac and I headed down to Savannah around 9 am as we had a 1:30 lunch reservation at The Lady and Sons (Paula Deen’s restaurant). The food here is fantastic, and they now take reservations over the phone. Last time I was there, you had to stand in line to make reservations. Yes, it’s three stories, and each floor has a dining room… View Post »
One year later…
Hard to believe that our wedding day was a year ago today. Mac, thank you for choosing me to walk through this life with you. Our first year of marriage was amazing, and I can’t wait to see what the next years have in store for us. I love you.
