Or, as I say, rackin’ and stackin’. Mac got the first unofficial list of potential jobs for junior captains after his career course. Much to my dismay, Fort Lewis wasn’t even on there. I really wanted to go to Fort Lewis.
No more Seattle. Whomp whomp. |
There’s a fair mix of jobs, but a lot of the available jobs just listed the post, not the actual job position. Mac has decided he wants to pick a job then decide on the location, if that job has multiple openings. In true Texan fashion, his several classmates from Texas have laid claim to the positions at three different posts in Texas. We’ve talked about the possibility of him deploying a second time or taking a job where I couldn’t go with him (certain jobs in Korea or in the Middle East). While this isn’t ideal, it could be good for his overall career.
We’re also considering an OCONUS move (outside the continental US). Again, it would depend on the job and the location. We’re open to moving overseas, but we’re not planning on that right now. Mac’s just going to research the jobs that interest him to better prepare himself to make a decision.
Hopefully, the full, official list (that includes info like whether or not that unit will be deploying soon) will be published in the next week or two. It’ll be nice for Mac to actually know about the jobs, so he can decide what he wants to do.
What did y’all consider when looking at your job lists? Would you live overseas?

My husbands VML doesn’t come out until october but we are going through a similar situation. My husband is a pilot, so we keep going back and forth if we should focus on the plane or the location. And what is best for his career. We are kinda focusing mostly on the plane because some planes can be gone 300 days a year, so we want to skip those if possible. We also have considered moving over seas, but its so hard to leave family! I would focus on the job and whats best for his career.

This is tough! I think ultimately you want them to be happy in their job everyday and then you’ll be happy as long as you’re together? We are lucky to be at Carson but we would consider living over seas later. Good luck!

I had even started looking up homes at Fort Carson, and it ended up not being on our list. Thankfully Hawaii was, and it was a command slot. That was the most important thing when it came down to making our list. It had to be somewhere that had a command slot, so we ended up ranking those type of slots by desirability. I think the majority of the top half of our wish list was overseas.

We are moving overseas to England in less than a month. It’s such a big decision but so worth it to travel all of Europe! My husband was in Korea for a year. And while it was unaccompanied, there were others who brought along their wives with no problems. They just had to pay for them to fly there and such. It would be an awesome experience!

You should definitely have that list in a week or so. Hopefully that will give you guys more help on where you want to go. We weren’t even supposed to come to Bliss, we were headed to Hawaii and then a job popped up for Kyle.
