So I’ve mentioned a few times that we’re now moving in June. A big part of a painless move is preparing well ahead of time. We also have to begin paring down our stuff.
DVDs and such. Mac and I have reasonably similar taste in movies and so own multiple copies of Gladiator, The Patriot, and Love Actually. We also have been slowly upgrading to Blu-Ray when they go on sale. We’re going to pack up all of the duplicates and sell them at Movie Stop. But then I go on a Blu-Ray binge on Amazon. Damn you and your reasonably priced movies.
Magazines. We have several magazine subscriptions, and they start to take up a lot of space very quickly. I don’t know why, but lots of magazines laying around makes me feel like a hoarder. Martha would not approve of hoarding her mags.
Pantry. I went through a phase where I began stockpiling food items on sale. Don’t worry, I’m not like the crazies on “Extreme Couponing,” but we do have a rather healthy supply of pasta, sauce, and condiments. I really did get most of it for free or under $1. The only grocery items we’ll really need to buy are produce and meat. Anything leftover will be making its way to our church’s food bank.
What did y’all get rid of in order to move?

Every time we move we purge everything. If I even remotely think I’m not going to use it, it either gets tossed or donated.

I am also moving in a month! I started boxing everything up six months ago and I still have so much left to do! It’s kind of a huge pain! This is my first time ever moving and I’m hoping it will all so smoothly! Good luck with your move! Planning ahead definitely helps!

We are on the June Move Wagon too. I get rid of old clothes, start using up the pantry, and almost everything I haven’t used within 12-18 months gets put in the toss pile. We did not purge enough before our last move, and I am not making that mistake again. Good luck with your move!

I love the purge phase when you move. We too had a large pile of magazines that we parted with. I don’t know why it is so hard to toss them in the moment. You never know when you may want to re-read one. lol. (That never happens)

Good luck with your move (packing – ugh!). Whenever we’ve moved, I always find it’s a good chance to go through my wardrobe and books – the two things I am forever buying more and more of! I do have a real love for culling things though – sometimes, too much (I get rid of things happily then a week later want to go buy it back from the thrift store).

We aren’t moving for another 7 weeks and I’ve already started purging the closets and packing things that we don’t need.

Clothes! I get rid of tons of clothes when I move. As for food, I make sure it’s all in my tummy before moving day. 🙂
Good luck with the move!
