What We’re Watching – Spring 2020

1 / 2 / 3 / 4

Our TV time has definitely increased this spring. We finally finished Castle, which had the most abrupt ending ever. I was also really underwhelmed by the most recent seasons of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Outlander.

Tiger King

If you haven’t watched Tiger King, did you even quarantine? This show was a wild ride from start to finish. And it has something for everyone: a gay tiger trainer who loves guns, polygamy, drug addicts, more sequins than a 90s country performance, and murder. You know a show is out of control when the real-life inspiration for Scarface admits to killing a DEA informant and comes off as one of the more normal people on the show. It was definitely entertaining (and completely baffling).

Frasier

We like to balance watching hour-long dramas with 30-minute comedies. Mac noticed Frasier was on Hulu, so it’s been our latest comedy. We both watched episodes growing up on syndication. It’s genuinely laugh-out-loud funny. This isn’t the most kid-friendly, but it’s easy to watch. And it has 11 seasons.

Bargain Mansions

I’m firmly in the age range of watching HGTV on a regular basis. This new home-flipping show takes place in Kansas City. And that’s 100% of the reason why I watch it. I’ve never lived anywhere that had a TV show. I low-key hope I see someone I recognize. Overall, it’s a standard flipping show, though I do enjoy the format of how the renovations are done.

Derry Girls

Derry Girls takes place in Northern Ireland during The Troubles in the 1990s. If you’re a fellow born in the 80s and raised in the 90s baby, you’ll recognize lots of the music and pop culture references. And you’ll get to experience the Irish “Rock the Boat” phenomenon. It’s actually something they do at weddings and parties, and my mind was blown when I found out it was real. They do swear a lot, but it’s really funny and light-hearted.

What have you been watching? Any good recommendations?
