Our Texas house details
We’ve been in our house for about a month and are pretty much settled. I wanted to share some of our decor choices. Our house has a pretty strong log cabin vibe, and we like to use color and pattern.
Colors
One thing you may not know about me is that I’m not a fan of neutral. I put color on everything. So it shouldn’t be that surprising that we have no white walls in our house. We opted to use Behr colors again if only because we picked these out in Kansas where Home Depot was the closest store. Painting our house was a nightmare, but it’s done.
Halls and the loft – Graycloth: I wanted a lighter color that paired well with our main rooms color but wasn’t white. Enter Graycloth. It’s a crisp light gray and brings a fresh contrast to our windowless hallways and our reading loft.
Bathrooms – Teton Blue: I am totally guilty of picking paint colors based off the names. Throw a mountain range on it, and I’ll use it. This paint is a bit darker than I thought, but I love the blue-gray against the white trim in our bathrooms. It also works with the different floors we have upstairs.
Master bedroom – Adirondack Blue: The mountain-themed colors strike again. I personally love rich colors in my bedroom, so we opted for this beautiful Adirondack Blue. It makes the room feel cozy but cool (a must in the desert of West Texas) and looks nice with our pine furniture.
Bedrooms – Nature’s Gift: I originally picked out a third shade of blue then changed my mind to this after seeing a similar shade while watching HGTV. Nature’s Gift is the perfect grayish green for my office and the guest room. It also gave us some flexibility to decorate two rooms that are next to each other but have very different styles.
The downstairs – Scallion: If you’ve seen our Colorado home tour, you know that I love green walls. I’m still in love with green walls, and this shade works with our natural pine and dark brown wood furniture. Our house actually had green walls when we bought it, so we refreshed the color (and filled in a million holes).
Rugs
We redid the flooring upstairs. The old carpet was worn out and dirty. So we decided to cover up the new floors with rugs. All of these came from RugsUSA, and we used a coupon code.
Master bedroom – Terra chunky loop rug: This is the rug I’m least thrilled with. The color is a bit more diluted than I wanted, and the rug sheds a ton. It works in our room, but I’m not totally in love with it.
Family room – Red flamestitch tribal diamond rug: We had to move some rugs around because our main floor also has hardwood floors. I snagged this rug for our family room. It has a great southwestern pattern, though it doesn’t match as well as I thought it would when I bought it. The contrasting color is actually more of a turquoise, but I kind of dig it.
Hallway runner – Wine southwestern rug: Bagel Bites likes to tear through our house at full speed and do what we call the “Scooby Doo.” This runner lives in the upstairs hallway to give a bit more traction.
Guest room – Light-multi Moroccan trellis rug: I love the bright multi-colored pattern on the creamy background. It’s a nice splash of color under our black bed frame and crisp white linens.
Office – Gray wrought iron trellis rug: I originally picked this rug out for the loft but put it in the office. The gray contrasts with the Nature’s Gift green on the walls and the gray wood stain of my office furniture.
Loft – Withered bloom in bouquet rug: I decided to put this more colorful rug in the loft. It pairs well with the Graycloth paint color and adds a bright pop on the floor. And the cats love to sit on it.
