Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park

Our final Georgia National Park Service site was Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. The battle at Kennesaw Mountain occurred shortly before Sherman’s march on Atlanta and on to the Georgia coast.

Address and Location

You’ll find Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park at 900 Kennesaw Mountain Drive in Kennesaw, Georgia. The Visitor’s Center has a decent-sized parking lot, but it fills up quickly. You can also park in overflow parking down the road.

What to do

We headed into the Visitor’s Center to get our NPS stamp. The rangers were very helpful and informative and gave us a good hiking recommendation. We wandered into the museum and joined a guided museum tour. It was pretty informative. The museum also has some interesting artifacts.

The trail up Kennesaw Mountain

Kennesaw Mountain also offers lots of hiking options and a variety of trails. You can hike over the battlefield and up Kennesaw Mountain. If you plan to hike, be aware that Kennesaw Mountain is an actual mountain. The trail is pretty steep, rocky, and uneven. If you have any accessibility or ability concerns, take the shuttle. You’ll find a nice overlook at the top of Kennesaw Mountain with gorgeous views of Atlanta. If you want to walk the battle lines, know that they’re pretty hard to follow on the mountain.
