In our quest to visit (and get stamps from) every National Park Service property, we headed back to Fort Pulaski. We first visited when we went on vacation to Savannah in 2013.
Address and Location
Fort Pulaski sits about ten miles outside of Savannah on Cockspur Island. You reach it from US 80, and you will see signs marking where to turn. The site doesn’t have a physical address.
Cost
The entrance fee costs $10 a person. You can purchase a pass for $35 a year. As always, interagency passes run $80 a year or free for military members.
What to do
Fort Pulaski is a pretty well preserved fort, so you can walk along the interior, exterior, and the top of the fort. Several cannon are also placed in different positions around the fort, and they give you a good idea of how the fort was defended. Park rangers also provided guided tours and program every day. I would recommend walking around on your own and sitting in on a Ranger presentation if you can. You can view the fort and the exhibits in under an hour.
Once you explore the fort, you can hike a few trails on the island around the fort. The trails offer really nice views of Tybee Island and the Georgia coast. Keep in mind that summer temperatures at Fort Pulaski will be in the 90s with very high humidity. Pack plenty of water, sunscreen, and bug spray.
