Football season is upon us. College football officially started up last week, and the NFL kicks off tonight. While we would love to go to every Virginia Tech game this season since we bought season tickets, that really isn’t in the cards for us. So we’ll be watching our beloved Hokies, Redskins, and Broncos from the comfort of our couch most weekends. I’m a big fan of snacking throughout the day while watching football instead of regular meals, so here are 10 tasty dips for football season I can’t wait to make.
THE loaded baked potato dip
This has to be my all-time favorite tailgating dip. I came across the recipe back in 2011, made it for a game, and have been bringing it to tailgates every since. It has the best combination of flavors and is wildly popular. You can also make it in one container, so prep and cleanup are a breeze.
Green chile sweet corn queso dip
Yum. I found green chiles in our Kroger on sale for $2. Mac loves green chiles, so I’m planning to whip up a batch of this dip this weekend to use the chiles before they go bad.
Smoked mozzarella dip
This dip is an ooey, gooey pan of complete and total deliciousness. The recipe is also about 95% cheese, so I know Mac would love it. If it weren’t going to be in the 90s today, I would run to the grocery store to get all the ingredients and then devour this. But I’ll save it for a cooler day.
Sassy sausage dip
I originally made this dip for a Junior League event a few years ago. It’s a good blend of spicy, creamy, and flavor. You can make it in the microwave or on the stove top. It works well hot, at room temperature, or even chilled. I love this dip with blue corn chips.
Skillet black bean queso dip
This dip was inspired by an amazing queso at Flaming Amy’s in Wilmington, North Carolina, so it’s already off to a good start. The spiciness of the cheese paired with the beans makes for a tasty combination that is perfect for a chilly day.
Cheesy garlic knot pizza dip
I’m a big fan of anything pizza related, and this dip has me drooling on my keyboard. I love the idea of using garlic knots as dippers and baking them in the pan with the dip.
Spinach artichoke dip
Spinach artichoke dip is just a classic appetizer. I’ve been making my version of this recipe for almost 10 years, and I love it every single time. I tend to go heavy on the spinach to make this dip a bit more hearty. Also, fried pita points are my love language, so I make a batch every time I make this dip.
Skinny southwest chicken dip
If you’re looking for a dip option that is a bit lighter, be sure to snack on this skinny southwest chicken dip. It uses Greek yogurt, so it’s not quite as heavy with the mayo and cream cheese as some of these other dips. This dip also looks super refreshing and would be great for a hot day of tailgating like this weekend will bring.
Jalapeno popper dip
One thing I love about dips is that you can get the flavors of other dishes in one convenient place. Mac loves jalapeno poppers, but they are honestly kind of a pain to make. This dip incorporates all the flavor elements without the hassle of cleaning, chopping, and filling a bunch of jalapenos.
Easy vegetarian chili dip
Peas and Crayons is crushing this dip thing. I love this recipe because it’s super filling and warms you up. You can also use any veggie chili recipe, though she does include her own. This dip has a bag of Fritos calling my name.
