We visited Versailles, the penultimate symbol of French monarchy and opulence, on our last full day in France. Our group split in two to do a guided tour of the palace interiors. I was in the second guided group, so we had a bit of free time to explore the grounds and gardens. Versailles is extremely popular with tourists, both in groups and alone. If you are not in a group, be sure to go as early as you can. The lines were insanely long by the time we were leaving mid-morning. Also set aside plenty of time to walk the grounds and gardens.
