Over the past 8 years, I have moved my wardrobe a grand total of 8 times. Hauling my clothes back and forth to Blacksburg every year in college helped me master how I organize my closet. I don’t subscribe to the color coding notion because I don’t look use color to decided what to wear. Instead, I sort my tops by type: first by sleeve length (sleeveless to long sleeve) then by style within length (button downs, cardigans, t-shirts, etc.).
I keep pants and skirts together, and my dresses are on Wonder Hangers. The dresses aren’t as organized because of weight distribution. Since the Wonder Hangers are plastic, they can stretch under too much weight.
How do y’all organize your closets?

Moving every year in college helped me cram all my clothes in a tiny living space…LOL. Here in VA we have a walk-in closet and I almost don’t know what to do with myself.

I can one up you on closet organization. my closet is organized like this camisoles, plain tanks, tanks, plain tees, not plain tees, plain long sleeves, not plain long sleeves, cardis, zip up hoodies… and then each section is arranged by color. i feel slightly crazy typing this out.

Our closet is so small we had to buy a wardrobe from Ikea for Mike to use. Anyways mine go Jerseys, Tanks, Tees, long sleeve shirts, sweaters, sweatshirts, dresses (by length). Then on the shelves are my less dressy tanks and tees. I dream of the day of having a huge walk in closet.

I keep all of my short sleeve shirts together, long sleeves together, and so on. I have to have organization or I will go crazy.

I sort by top and colour, but I rotate seasonally just because space in my UK wardrobe is so small. In summer my winter things are packed away and vice versa. x

I do mine fairly similar to yours. I do organize my dresses by season (winter, summer, all seasons). I use to do color too when I was in high school, but that got to be too much once I was moving all the time due to college. And I have never picked it back up. Sorting by category seems most logical because I can go straight to a section depending on my mood and occasion and not be bogged down by all the options.
