Greetings from Pennsylvania! Our PCS road trip is in progress, and we are taking a few weeks to make the move from Colorado to Georgia. Back when we listed our house, we were fourth on the housing list at Fort Gordon and were confident that we would get a house in a timely manner. Mac’s rank qualifies him for housing in two different neighborhoods, and we definitely had a neighborhood one we wanted and one we didn’t want. We knew that we were taking a risk in listing our house without a housing offer and move-in date at our new home, but we already had the movers arranged and decided to take the chance. Flash forward: we accepted an offer and moved up the closing date so we wouldn’t spend extra time and money in Colorado (living in a hotel because our stuff had already been shipped). Around this time, we were offered two houses in Augusta: one in the each of the neighborhoods. The older neighborhood we didn’t want had a move-in day that was exactly aligned with our timeline, and the newer neighborhood we did want had a move in date a few weeks later. After a short discussion, we decided to take the house in the newer neighborhood because that’s where we want to live. This left us with over three weeks between our closing date in Colorado and our appointment to sign our lease in Georgia.
What better to do than take a road trip? We headed out from the Springs and stopped by Kansas City to visit my brother-in-law, his lovely wife, and their new baby. The Army is sending them to Europe this year, so we decided to meet our nephew before he moves to different continent. We made an overnight pit stop in Indianapolis to break up the drive with two cats, and I checked out Alpha Gamma Delta’s headquarters (aka the mothership). We are now in Pennsylvania and have traveled 1375 of the 1550 miles we will spend on I-70 (with 1400 of the total 2300 miles done). We’re heading down to the in-laws in DC soon and then attending a sorority sister’s wedding en route to Augusta.
Anyone else do a road trip during your summer move?

I’m excited for you guys and this new adventure! We have only ever done a road trip once during a move. We typically just like to get to our new duty station.
