We remember

Memorial candle

Nine years. One shy of a decade. When this week comes each year, I’m shocked at how quickly time has passed and how vivid my memories of it are. I guess that’s what happens with these kind of days. They’re so out of the ordinary that the details from before it and after are seared in your mind. Nine years since I was a freshman in college. Nine years since our world changed forever. Nine years since we lost 32 Hokies. Nine years. As time goes on, I am asked with less frequency if I was there when I tell people I went to Virginia Tech. I felt compelled to share some of my experience last semester in class and cried, so that won’t happen again. Nine years, and the emotions feel as raw today as they did then. Nine years of living for 32.

We will prevail. We are Virginia Tech.
