My new, improved half marathon training plan
Remember that time I went crazy and registered for a half-marathon? And that time I apparently continued to be crazy and registered for a second?
Having one race until my belt, I’m going into this race with some experience and a good idea of what did and did not work for my first half. I’m going to use the same Hal Higdon training plan and app. Considering the app was $10, it’s nice to be able to reuse it. A big detractor for a consistent training plan the first time was weather. We don’t have a treadmill in the house (just an elliptical), and running 2-3 miles twice a week is really difficult when it snows 6 inches at a time. My official training can start no later than the last week of August (around the 25th). I think next week I’m going to do just a few walks and runs. Because of the issues with my foot, I haven’t run since May.
I also have to deal with boredom whilst running. I run mainly on the W&OD trail that cuts through Northern Virginia. While it’s a long trail, it looks the same along the entire route. Boring. I’ve been researching other running trails and will be doing my Saturday long runs elsewhere just to mix it up. I’ll hopefully do a few in Blacksburg before game day!
Do y’all have any tips for running a second half-marathon?
