One thing I noticed as the weather cooled off (and then got straight up cold) is that my wardrobe is majorly lacking in useful winter pieces. Back in my college days, I had nice winter clothes that I wore for work during school breaks or for formal sorority events. I moved to North Carolina after I graduated and began paring down on the cold-weather gear when I would clean out my closet. I have to say I miss Fayetteville’s few weeks of winter (where the high was only in the 40s). We moved to Colorado in January, but I wasn’t working and could layer on sweats and thick socks if I was that cold.
These days are a different story. My office is an outer suburb of Siberia and is around 60-65 most days (the heat isn’t turned on, we have plate glass windows, and it’s on a corner of the building). I have to balance being warm with wearing nice business casual clothes and not rocking riding boots and leggings with a long sweater everyday (#basic). Layering if definitely key, and it’s a good way to wear tees or sleeveless tops that aren’t warm enough on their own. I’ve also been on the hunt for black boots or booties that will allow me to wear socks (if I had a dollar for every time I’ve stepped in snow while trekking through the parking lot…)
What are your work staples during winter? Where do you find good winter clothes?

I need to vamp up mine too, mostly because things don’t fit lol.

I had the opposite problem when I was teaching in Colorado… the school building was always SO HOT, and I’m a big sweater… so I’d have to wear warm weather clothes in the winter and cold weather clothes in August because the A/C would be on so high! Crazy!

I don’t know how I’ll ever survive in the cold. I have like 3 long sleeve shirts.
