In search of the perfect riding boot

Or “embracing my inner basic bitch.” Riding boots have been all the rage the past few years, and I’ve searched high and low for a perfect pair. Unfortunately, my massive man-calves have made this quite challenging. Regardless of how much I weigh, I still have really big legs from years of dancing and playing soccer. I thought I found the ones back in 2011. Cognac brown, leather, flat, very little ornamentation, on sale. Sadly, they didn’t exactly zip up the whole way. The wide-calf selection has grown a bit, and I’ve been on the prowl again. And by on the prowl, I mean casually searching online and not looking in any stores.

Spoiler alert: I find them.

When I was in Colorado, I popped over to the mall to kill some time. Eventually, I wandered into a Famous Footwear. They had tons of boots, and I looked at a few of the wide calf styles. I found the cognac first and tried them on. They fit well, but I wasn’t too keen on the leather straps around the ankle. I grabbed a similar style in black. Again, they fit, but I realized that I wanted brown. I decided to bite the bullet on the cost (they were around $100) and buy them. At the counter, the manager had me pull up a 15% off coupon on my phone for an even better deal. Last week at the mall, a lady stopped my to ask where I bought my boots. I told her Famous Footwear, so she asked me where the closest store is (there aren’t any nearby). I then had to tell her I bought them in Colorado. She had me go over to her friend who had also been on the lookout for wide calf boots. Her friend was happy enough to know the brand.

If you’re interested in my particular pair, they’re the Enya Wide Calf. Link here.
