One highly unfortunate side effect of weight gain is stretch marks. If I ever have kids, I’m pretty much doomed to more stretch marks. Mine are the ugly purple kind. So it was delightful when Mac pointed them out because he thought they were bruises. But have no fear! I happened across a balm to help remove those unpleasant marks.

I’ve heard lots of rave reviews about the healing powers of cocoa butter. Since the stretch marks I had were across my abdomen, I was on the look out for something easy to use that wasn’t too thick. Enter Palmer’s Skin Therapy Oil. It’s a cocoa butter based formula that is similar in consistency to Argan hair oil. The smell is pretty standard for cocoa butter products, and it’s not too greasy. The oil applies easily and wipes off my hands quickly. I use it once or twice (if I remember) a day. The lethal combo of therapy oil and weight loss is giving me great results. The stretch marks have are softer, smoother, and much lighter in color. They are still noticeable, but I’m hoping that more weight loss and continued use of the oil will help them disappear completely.
What have you tried to heal stretch marks? Have y’all used cocoa butter?

I have a lotion version of this. Possibly made for pregnancy..? Luckily, my stretch marks are very light, and usually don’t stay or at least aren’t noticeable.

I have tried this and it doesn’t make them disappear completely…nothing does. When the skin is stretched and pulled apart the scar cannot be undone by products because they do not physically put the skin back together. Certain product can however fade and improve the appearance. Stretch marks are also not only the result of weight gain and pregnancy. Many thin people have stretch marks as well and they tend to appear on young girls during puberty. They can also be caused when you loose too much weight too rapidly, the skin recoils very fast and has no time to adjust, so even some people who suffer from eating disorders can get stretch marks. Some people are also more prone to stretch marks due to genetics. They are pesky but sometimes just a part of life.
