Subtitled: the many ways that Lisa feels old.
So if I stay up late, I tend to turn on reruns of Friends on Nick@Nite. Judge away. The other night, imagine my surprise when “Full House” is on instead. In this particular episode, Uncle Jesse is trying to write a single to land a record deal. He’s really stressed out, and the emotional moment is when he snaps at Michelle and refuses to attend the annual Tanner family field day. The horror!

I was musing about how TV has changed over the years (I’m almost 25, so I’m very wise in these matters). Let’s examine “Pretty Little Liars.” Long story short, one girl in a clique dies mysteriously. What is suicide, murder, or something else? The four remaining friends navigate life after her death and cryptic clues and taunts from an omnipotent stranger. Back when I was in high school, my main drama was something so insignificant I can’t even remember what I found dramatic. My friends weren’t exactly outsmarting cops and crazies with perfectly coifed curls and flawless make-up in tow. We were skipping class and hanging out at Bob Evans or Wal-Mart (small town, y’all).
I clearly wasn’t wearing a short trench-coat with stilettos. |
How about Wishbone, the lovable terrier who acted out classic literary works? Sadly, I don’t think kids these days have a dog wearing a beard teaching them about Rip Van Winkle or sporting an arrow sheath as Robin Hood.

At least Shark Week hasn’t changed.
What do you think of TV shows on now?

I spent one day this summer watching Boy Meets World and Sabrina the Teenage Witch reruns on MTV and got so nostalgic. I like ABC family shows like Bunheads and Switched at Birth but the characters are very promiscuous… when TGIF characters had sex it was a Very Special Episode with a “talk to your kids about STDs” PSA at the end! The most scandalous show we had was The OC!

I love all the old shows! They are the best, and always will be!! The new shows are just so fake!! You can never go wrong with Boy Meets World, Sabrina, or saved by the bell!!

Thanks for following through the Sunday Social! I am so happy to find a fellow army wife. My husband is in the reserves right now, but he did deploy and come back last year from Afghanistan. Would you like to exchange emails? I’d like to get to know you better! 🙂

TV has drastically changed since the days of TGIF on ABC. There is always a sexual undertone (or overtone for that matter). My personal favorite was Boy Meets World! Although, I will admit that I love watching Pretty Little Liars now…
