MAJOR news. Mac has been picked up for promotion to major! His promotion board met last fall, so he submitted his promotion file in August. The waiting game began and finally ended when the list was released a few weeks ago. In the Army, you attend a course called Command and General Staff College (CGSC) in the transition from captain to major. You can attend the course in-person at Fort Leavenworth, by correspondence, or complete another military branch’s course. Mac really wanted to go to Fort Leavenworth, so he ranked that as his first preference.
So what does that mean? We are moving again! Once Mac’s orders come through, we’ll have the official dates and a destination. The Army HR office told everyone selected for promotion that a request for orders (so unofficial orders) may come as late as the beginning of March with official orders following.
Based on what Mac chose, we are planning to go to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. We are expecting to move in late May or early June. His course begins in July and will be about ten months long. After he’s done with that course, we will move again. Yes, we did move in 2017. With this promotion, we will probably move in 2019 and 2020. I’m excited to move again, but we’re caught in the limbo of waiting for confirmation about when and where. I’ll be sure to keep y’all updated once we know where we’re headed!
