Apple bread
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup buttermilk or sour milk
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 cups shredded, peeled apple (I used four apples)
- 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
- 1/2 cup raisins

Streusel-nut topping
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1/3 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (the same kind as you use in the bread)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9 x 5 loaf pan.
- Beat the butter with a hand mixer in a large bowl for about 30 seconds. Add sugar and stir until combined. Mix in butter milk and baking powder. Add eggs and vanilla. Stir in flour and salt. Fold in apple, nuts, and raisins.
- Streusel-nut topping: Stir together brown sugar and flour. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in nuts.
- Spread batter evenly in greased pan. Sprinkle streusel-nut topping over batter.
- Bake for 60 – 65 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes in pan. Remove from pan and cool completely.
