Way back in March, we decided to turn our trip to Opening Day into a long weekend in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Chattanooga isn’t too far north of Atlanta, and it was easy to pop back on the interstate after the game. This trip was pretty last minute, but it was still fun getaway.
Where we stayed in Chattanooga
We got in late on a rainy Thursday night, so we checked into the Holiday Inn Express Chattanooga Downtown on Martin Luther King Boulevard. It was pretty close to the downtown area, easy to get to, and right off one of the main highways.
Where we ate in Chattanooga
We woke up early on Friday morning and grabbed breakfast at Milk & Honey; I had the Farmhouse Biscuit, and Mac had the Hot Mess breakfast sandwich. We then had lunch at Puckett’s Grocery, another location of the restaurant we visited in Nashville. Because it was Mac’s birthday, I made us stop for some birthday cupcakes at Cupcake Kitchen. They were amazing, and we ate all four that night.
I made plans for a busy Saturday, so we got another early start at The Daily Ration. I had the Southern Benedict (which was delicious and wasn’t a traditional Benedict), and Mac had the Huevos Rancheros.
What to do in Chattanooga
On Friday morning, we headed to the Tennessee Aquarium after breakfast. We strolled around the downtown area for a bit after lunch, stopping in the Moon Pie General Store and a few other shops.
Saturday morning, we drove to Ruby Falls, a cave and underground waterfall. The line was, I’m not exaggerating, at least a half mile long. So we skipped that and headed up to Lookout Mountain, part of the Chattanooga and Chickamauga Battlefield. From there, we stopped by Rock City and their seven-state overlook. We weren’t done yet and drove down to the main Chickamauga Battlefield in northern Georgia.
We drove home after a whirlwind two days, and we really enjoyed our weekend in Chattanooga.
