Life with a hypochondriac cat
So Purrburger isn’t a true hypochondriac, but she is rather sickly. In the first three months we had her, she had a double ear infection and a bout of worms. Because of this, we decided to buy Burger a health insurance policy at Banfield. She was due for a rabies shot and her bi-annual checkup, so we took her in last week. They ran a full blood work (CBC and chemistry), and we found out that our little muffin has no blood platelets. At all. Blood platelets are what allow your blood to clot, and this is obviously a problem. The doctor sent us home with a medicine to help boost her immune system and a pill to protect her stomach from the other medicine. And just who thought cats would like cherry flavored syrup? The only plus is that she looks exactly like the Joker after we give it to her.
I took her over for her grooming appointment yesterday and mentioned the medical issues. About half an hour later, the groomer calls me concerned because Purrburger is very lethargic and drooly (both are not good symptoms in cats). Thankfully, a vet tech from Banfield walked over and got her (the grooming salon is in the same store), and they did another workup. Apparently, Burger was stressed from being back at the groomer / vet and freaked out to the point where they almost had to restrain her. Her platelet count was up to 6, so the medicine seems to be working. Let’s just hope this continues, and she’s back to healthy soon.
