The wives’ group in Mac’s new unit is hosting a taco-themed coffee this weekend. Most groups started out as coffee get-togethers; these days, a lot meet for dinner. I’m going to sign up to host one in the near future and have been thinking about themes. I hosted a pumpkin carving party at Fort Bragg, and, aside from the actual hurricane brewing outside, it was really fun.
DIY painting class – instead of meeting up at Painting with a Twist, we do one ourselves. I was thinking the unit crest, but it has a very complicated dragon. Mac described it as looking like Mushu from Mulan. We could also do the division patch. Lucky for me, I have a whole pack of canvases I bought way back in 2012 for a wedding craft that I never used.
Wine and cheese tasting – fun, but unlikely. I’m like the only wife without kids. If we have a coffee when the regiment is out training, most of the wives won’t be able to come.
Cookbook / recipe swap – a potluck where everyone brings a prepared recipe from a cookbook. You swap and take home a new cookbook.
Bunco / board game night – the brigade commander’s wife hosted a Bunco night back at Bragg. I had no idea how to play, but I still had lots of fun.
What coffee themes do you like?

I definitely think some coffee groups do things based on the size of the group. Most of the ones I have been to have never really done themes because there were just so many people. When I ran my coffee group it was such a small group that going to dinner or doing the painting events was much easier to do.

This month we are doing a (scaled down) Favorite Things party where everyone brings three of their favorite thing ($5-7) and then everyone goes home with three new things!

The ones I’ve been to have usually either been coffee at Starbucks or some other place, or like a snack/dessert thing. I’ve been DYING to do a wine and cheese one. We did a painting ceramic one too that was fun!

My favorite spouse get togethers are the painting parties! I’ve done quite a few at this point and I always enjoy myself. I also like the wine and cheese idea. It’s not necessarily something kids can’t come to, especially if the guys are training. I hosted my sister’s bridal shower as a wine tasting at my parent’s house and there were kiddos there watching a movie in the other room and playing around us. You could even get some small plastic wine cups for kids and have grape juice, small grapes and some cheddar cheese platters that are kid friendly š

Ooh, love the kid-friendly idea. I feel like my parents did that with soda one time they hosted a wine-tasting party.

Game nights, taco bar, soup and breadsticks, movie and popcorn bar, s’mores and outdoor movies and cards are all fun spouse party ideas. Sounds like a fun way to spend the evening together š
