Kristyn over at Chits and Giggles wrote a great post about her engagement ring and why she might upgrade it down the road. That got me to thinking about my own wedding set. Mac and I picked it out way back in 2010. It was well under the “two months’ pay” price range, and we even got a military discount. It’s under a single carat, total weight, and the diamonds aren’t Tiffany-grade. I’m not really sure if you could even replace the middle stone. Despite all this, I don’t plan to upgrade my ring, but I might not wear it all the time.
Growing up, I wasn’t used to my parents wearing their wedding rings. They had matching gold bands with solitaire diamonds. My dad’s disappeared somewhere between Colorado and Alabama, and my mom normally prefers to wear a diamond and ruby band Dad gave her for their tenth anniversary (which occurred when I was four). Because of this, I’m very willing to not wear my wedding band set all the time. Mac bought me a white and blue sapphire band for our first Valentine’s Day, and I really love it. My right and left hands aren’t the same size, so I don’t wear it too often. It normally comes out when my ring is due for its inspection.
I’ve also decided to create my own ring stack. Last year, Mac surprised me by buying an aquamarine eternity band I told him I liked (thank you, deployment, for random jewelry gifts). My plan is to buy the matching sapphire band (for our birthstones) and to stack them around a David Yurman cable ring. I can wear it on either hand and swap it out with my wedding set.
Would y’all upgrade your engagement ring or just buy a new one instead?

I want to add another band for our 10 years, but I would never get rid of it.

I don’t want to upgrade or change my ring at all. Kyle picked it out on his own without any input and he did amazing. I love it.

I love your ring! John surprised me with a new ring on our anniversary last year. I love it, but it’s not the original. It’s just this bigger shinier ring with no real meaning behind it. I haven’t gotten it resized yet, so I wear both.

If that’s your ring in the picture then you definitely don’t need to upgrade it!!

SoldierMan used to talk about upgrading my ring (before the Army, ha, less realistic now) but I’ve never been interested. This is my ring. But I also only have the single ring, no wedding band, because the ring itself is pretty detailed and I don’t want to cover it.

I love my ring so I never really thought about upgrading it. We did add a wedding band which I guess could be classified as upgrading since it does add some bling. I don’t think you need to upgrade yours! It is gorgeous!
