How I read the Bible in one year

One of my 30 by 30 goals was to read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and I crossed that goal off the list last year. In 2013, I bought a “read every day” study Bible for women from a Christian bookstore in Fayetteville. This particular version was a New Living Translation. It was a bit more modern than the King James or NIV I’m used to, but it was very easy to read. It splits the whole Bible into 365 readings, one for each day, and each reading involves a passage from the Old Testament, New Testament, a Psalm, and a Proverb. The readings are designed to take around 15 minutes, though some were much shorter and some were longer (especially the Old Testament prophets like Isaiah).  I wasn’t perfect and didn’t read each passage on the specific day. More than once, I forgot my Bible on an overnight trip and had to play catch up.

For me, this was the best way to read the whole Bible because I had a set amount of reading per day. I also enjoyed the mixture of scripture. I’ve been wanting to study the Bible for some time, and I didn’t know where to start. Reading the whole Word in this setting has prepared me for more in-depth studies of the different books. I would definitely recommend a Bible of this format for anyone interested in reading the entire Bible independent of a specific study.
