Thanksgiving this year was a low-key affair. Instead of a big dinner with my mom’s family or driving to Ohio to visit my dad’s, we (the parents, my sister, her husband, and I) just had dinner together. It was a refreshing change of spending a holiday with a smaller group. Obviously, we all wanted Mac there, but that just couldn’t happen. Leslie and Adam headed down to the road to his parents’ house (it’s literally down the highway from my parents’), so we ended the day watching football and leafing through the sales ads.
Friday, we decided to brave the crowds and headed over to the mall around 10 am. I’ve been wanting a set of flannel sheets that Macy’s has, and they were under $60. I want them because bears and squirrels. Duh. I also found 600 thread count sheets for our guest room for $30 and an orange ski jacket. We grabbed some other presents, swung by Steak n Shake for milkshakes, and were home within 3 hours. My Hokies wrapped up an abysmal season by beating the Boo Hoo Hoos for the 11th time in a row, setting up a bowl game for the 22nd consecutive season. Whoot.
My mom got an ad / coupon for the Lenox outlet in a nearby town, so we drove down there Saturday morning. To my dismay, I couldn’t find any of our pattern in the open stock pieces. My sister finally found them in the discontinued room. Major white girl problem: discontinued china patterns. We have 8 place settings and wanted to have 12 total. I found four dinner and salad plates and bought a few extra for breakage. I also stocked up on serving pieces and bought 4 platters, two trays, and a serving bowl. In all, I spent about $500 for around $2000 worth of china. It’s a lot of money, but the discounts can’t be beat. The platter I paid $30 for was marked down to $190 on Bed, Bath, and Beyond’s website.
The movers will be here tomorrow (eek), and I have so much to do (mainly laundry and packing my bags). Even though this move is a cakewalk compared to our last one, I still feel super unprepared. It’s also kind of surreal that the movers are coming tomorrow.
What did y’all do for Thanksgiving? Did you go shopping on Friday?

As soon as I read this post I went to double check that our china pattern is still available. Thankfully it is, but even so I may just be asking for a piece or two for the holidays to get to a complete collection… just in case!

I’ve only ever gone Black Friday shopping once, and we went to an outlet mall at like 7:30pm. The crowds were gone and it was perfect! I got my big Columbia winter coat for like $50, if even that.

Ahh! Good luck tomorrow!! I’ve never been brave enough to do Black Friday shopping. Working retail all throughout college was enough for me..
