So this weekend, I went to Blacksburg for Virginia Tech’s first football game. My friend, Lauren, has season tickets and a tailgating parking pass, so I go to games with her (and now her boyfriend). We headed up Friday. I got stuck in horrible traffic, and it took me a solid hour to get out of Northern Virginia (about 25 miles). I made it there around dinner, went to the bookstore, and stopped by our rental house. Lauren and Josh left a bit later and arrived an hour or so after me. We headed over to PK’s for dinner. Being the lame old people we are, we didn’t stay downtown after we ate.
Gameday dawned bright and early. We grabbed breakfast and drove over the gameday house of one of Lauren’s friends (yes, they really own a house they only use for football). From there we made our way to the tailgate. We set up around 11 am for the 4 pm kickoff. Our tailgate was nice and leisurely, if not extremely hot. Blacksburg seriously has 5 hot days a year, and this was definitely one of them. We saw the Hokie Walk around 2 then went back for more tailgating. We walked over to the stadium around 3:45 and had plenty of time before Enter Sandman. The new jumbotron is amazing. The game was great. I’m very excited about how the team played, especially considering how many guys were playing their first game for Virginia Tech. I did take my new DSLR but didn’t take a lot of photos with it.
We won (34-9) and decided to tailgate afterwards. I saw my lovely sister, Manisha, walking back to the tailgate, so we caught up. We made plans to meet up downtown later that night. We drove back to the house late and ordered pizza. Everyone was tired (I know, old and lame), so we watched some of the other games and just called it a night. Sunday morning, we hit up the bookstore (where I snagged the last 25th anniversary portrait of Frank Beamer) then got our Cabo Fish Taco dip fix after only slight bitching from the non-Hokies.
We checked out the new Alumni Hall store in First and Main then drove home. I rain into major rain and really bad accident but still got home after about 4 hours. It was a great weekend, and I can’t wait to go back for Georgia Tech!

That’s a pretty sweet jumbotron! I love the idea of having a game day house. If only we loved in Florida…
