Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) – Mindy Kaling

I recently read Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling. I’ve never really watched The Office, but I do enjoy The Mindy Project. My sister, Manisha, somehow introduced me to Mindy’s blog, and I love her writing and humor. This was a quick, easy read and was a nice break from the many biographies I read. I thought it was pretty funny (though not quite what I expected), and it’s a solid choice for a flight or a day at the beach.

The Young Elizabeth – Alison Plowden

Another book I recently finished was The Young Elizabeth by Alison Plowden. This biography focuses on Elizabeth’s first 25 years in more detail. Given that she lived to almost 70 and spent 45 years on the throne, her early life is rarely examined in detail. Overall, it was an interesting and easy read, though it didn’t include any new information.

Born to Rule: Five Reigning Consorts, Granddaughters of Queen Victoria – Julia Gelardi

I came across Born To Rule: Five Reigning Consorts, Granddaughters of Queen Victoria by Julia Gelardi. This biography focuses on Queen Victoria’s five granddaughters who became consorts. These granddaughters were Queen Marie (Missy) of Romania, Queen Sophie of Greece, Queen Maud of Norway, Queen Victoria Eugenie (Ena) of Spain, and Empress Alexandra of Russia. This book was another interesting read. I would recommend it because it examines the lives of five cousin queens who reigned at the same time.
