Mac and I have only celebrated one Valentine’s Day on the day. We started dating in March and had almost a full year together before one. Senior year, I flew out to Lawton to visit Mac because I didn’t have class on Fridays while he had a long weekend for President’s Day. This involved driving three hours to Charlotte and flying to Dallas in the middle of a genuine blizzard. Like it snowed over half a foot. My flight to Lawton was rescheduled to the next morning, so Mac drove three hours from Lawton to the airport in the snow to pick me up. Luckily for his northern Virginia driving, I drove back to his apartment. He even apologized for not buying me flowers because he came to pick me up instead.
Valentine’s was a Sunday, and we decided to go to dinner late (around 8 pm). Our first choice had over a two hour wait when we showed up. We wound up at Chili’s or Applebee’s (sad that I don’t remember?) and waited about 30 minutes. Not too bad, all things considered. We naively thought that a late dinner would miss most of the crowds, but we neglected the fact that there is nothing else to do in Lawton.
In 2011, Mac was deployed. I told him not to get anything, but he still sent flowers. We talked briefly because everyone wanted to call their wives, understandably.
I only had a slight breakdown when I got these. |
Last year I had a super stressful audit over V-Day at my last job. We went out over the weekend. This year, we’re not doing anything again. Why? Well, we live in the ultimate Army town. Because Valentine’s is a Thursday (you know, tomorrow) and the 14th, it lines up with pay day and a four day weekend for President’s Day. We just don’t feel like dealing with the crowds and long waits at restaurants. We go out to late lunch or early dinner just to avoid them on normal weekends. And to boot, we’re spending the weekend in Augusta looking at housing and exploring our future home.
Mac is getting this super sweet card because he makes fun of how much I love smores.
Another year, another belated V-Day. I wouldn’t have it any other way. What are your plans?

Aw shucks for belated V-Day plans. I have lots of friends who are celebrating during the weekend because of work. I have class until 8pm tomorrow so I’m not doing much besides school work lol and my SO is stationed 6,000 miles away so VDay for us will consist of a Skype movie date! The joys of technology:)
