As I mentioned, we’re going to buy some more furniture in the not-so-distant future. We’ve gone furniture window shopping a few times in the past months to kind of gauge what we like and what we should expect to pay. In all, we own a bedroom set, a guest room bed, a desk, and few bookshelves.
First up: washer and dryer. We obviously need these and will move them with us. I’ve decided I want both machines to be front-loading, so we can put a flat surface on it. I love the idea of having a folding and ironing space all in one.

Kitchen table: We don’t actually own a kitchen table and chairs. Joey had these, so we didn’t buy them because we didn’t need them. We are looking at a smaller set for our current kitchen area (our house here in Fayetteville doesn’t have a separate dining room) and have discussed buying a formal dining room set at some point. Our next house (or two) will determine what we do there. I love this bar / island we found at the post furniture store, but is it worth $500 for two seats?
Not the exact same but a similar style. |
Deep freeze: I call a free-standing freezer a deep freeze. Technically, they’re “chest freezers.” We would like to get one and keep it in the garage. I might even take a note from my parents: they now buy fresh produce (like corn, beans, etc) in season and freeze it in portion-controlled bags. It saves a lot of money, and their stand-alone freezer helps out with this. We also buy meat in bulk (any meat in North Carolina is expensive, y’all), and this would give us more space. Our current freezer is part of our side-by-side unit and really isn’t big enough.
Coffee and end tables: How many end tables can one couple own? We found a really nice set at Rooms To Go and are planning to buy them once Joey moves out. These will go in our family room.

Bookshelves: I’m a big fan of the ladder-style bookshelf. We want one or two in a similar stain to the coffee table set above for cookbooks, DVDs / Blu Rays, and general books.

Lounge chair and ottoman: I would like an armchair and matching ottoman for a reading area. Depending on our next house, I was thinking of putting them in the living room or a spare bedroom.
After seeing how much furniture we’ll need, I’m going to start checking pants pockets and lifting cushions for spare change. BRB.

We love having our deep freeze. The grocery store we shop at usually has buy one get one free deals on meat and we fill it up in portioned sizes (thanks to my vacuum seal lol). Yay for furniture shopping though, it’s fun but expensive. lol.
