Save the dates. STDs. What bride doesn’t giggle at that immature abbreviation? As I worked through our wedding planning tasks, I decided to send out save the dates. I really wanted Virginia Tech save the dates but couldn’t find anything (until too late). So I shifted gears to look for a maroon and orange color palette that wasn’t too “fall-y” for our June wedding. After searching through sites of wedding paperie, I also decided that we should include a photo of us. Even though we’d been together for over two years, we hadn’t met the majority of each other’s families. It would be nice for our families to know whom their relation was marrying.
I came across these beauties on Snapfish. Maroon and orange? Check. No pumpkins or overtly autumn images? Check. These where the most Virginia Tech save the dates I could find, so I ordered them. I loved the stars in place of leaves and compromised by justifying to send them out during the fall. Done and done. I bought the first batch with a 50% off promo code and free shipping. Yes, first batch. We ordered 5 packs of 20 cards. After following up with the mothers for addresses, a whole new batch of guests were added to our list, and we had to order more. The second round I used a 30% off promo code.
I decided to print our envelopes instead of hand-writing because I’m lazy. Unfortunately, I hadn’t discovered the wonders of Mail Merge and created a new Microsoft Word document for each guest address. And greater misfortune: some of the address lines were too long for the pre-sized box. The bottom line (city, state, and ZIP code) were partially cut off, so I had to write in the bottoms of the info. It was more an inconvenience that anything else.
I was beyond pleased with our save the dates. We sent them out, got great feedback from our friends and family, and moved on with wedding planning. Then I saw this amazingly perfect design from Keg Design. Enter major STD envy (only time in my life I’ll ever say that). Ohh, they are so beautiful. While I don’t regret ours, I definitely would’ve ordered these if I had known about them.
