Showered with love. And presents. And food.
If April showers bring May flowers and Mayflowers bring Pilgrims, what do May showers bring? I’m voting for June weddings! And hopefully, a successful crop of tomatoes and peppers.
This weekend, I had the pleasure of attending my bridal shower and bachelorette party. My lovely bridesmaids put on the whole weekend and were quite successful. Tragically, my camera died, so many events were not captured. My parents’ Interwebs aren’t very reliable because they live in the country. When I get Mama’s photos, I’ll throw them in here.
My shower was held at BM Antlers’ house / mansion. Her parents graciously opened their house for our use (yeah, she still lives at home. But so does BM JBenz). As a subtle nod to my Titanic obsession, the shower was Titanic themed, down to the invites. Antlers even popped a Titanic DVD in the theater BUT DIDN’T TELL ME. Probs because she knew I would have spent the shower watching it. Yes, her house has a theater. I never said her decision to not move out wasn’t justified.

Spoiler alert. The Titanic still sank.
We stuck to traditional bridal shower games. MOH Sister has never been a bridesmaid before, so she kept with a basic itinerary. We started off with drinks and food. BM JBenz found some fantastic recipes on Pinterest: bacon potato frittatas, lemon berry sangria, bruschetta. Yummy yummy in my tummy.

From there, we played our first game: How well do you know Mac and Lisa? It had questions like, “where was our first date? What were our majors in college?” It was humorous to hear some answers. Soror sister Steph got two right out of town, one being where we met. She was there, so I’m glad she knew that.
Then we opened presents. I made a delightful array of bizarre faces that would make Mrs Turkey proud. I’m even sticking my tongue out in a few of them. I have wonderful and generous friends and family and was literally showered with gifts. Y’all, you are too kind. I can’t describe my thanks!
We wrapped up with a purse raid and the toilet paper dress game, my personal fave. Of course, our mothers won the purse raid. Both of them had phone chargers. My mama had four lipsticks. I don’t even own lipstick. The ladies counted off to form teams for the dress-making because people started claiming the more creative members for their teams. My 12 year old cousin, Julia, got to model and told my dad that it was the most fun. I judged her team’s to be the best. MOH Sister passed out prizes of Bath & Body Works lotions and soaps. Pretty much everyone wound up with a prize. She also passed around slips of scrapbook paper and had my lovely guests write a fond memory of Mac or me. I read them after I got home Sunday afternoon. Cue cheesy smiles and warm fuzzies.
Sadly, our afternoon had to come to an end. We mingled a bit, but friends and family had to drive back to PA and Maryland that night. I said my goodbyes knowing that the next time I see these ladies will be wedding weekend! The rest of us trucked off to the Clarendon neighborhood of Arlington for dinner and the bachelorette.
