St Barbara, the patron saint of artillery

I’m pretty sure patron saints exist for every single, random thing including the United States Army Artillery. Apparently, St. Barbara converted to Christianity against the wishes of her pagan father. Long story short, she was martyred by her father, and he was smited (smote?) by lightning after beheading her. So patron saint of lighting = patron saint of explosions (really? Explosions need a patron saint?) = patron saint of artillery (boom). Anyhoo, artillery units in the Army celebrate her saint’s day (December 4) by hosting a ball generally on the first Saturday of December. The past two years, Mac and I didn’t attend because of his deployment. But this year is the year.

Barbara

As I found out at our most recent coffee last Saturday, a lot of wives choose to wear red because it is the color of artillery. I’m bucking with tradition and wearing a gorgeous purple gown that I snagged at Macy’s for 20% off. Holler. It was a bit tight when I bought it, but, thanks to Ideal Protein, it fits a lot better!
