March seemed to go by quickly and to drag on forever. But at least March 2021 felt shorter than March 2020. And we’re now halfway through April.
- I’m excited to announce that I will be pursuing a doctoral degree starting this summer! I will be working towards a Doctorate of Education in Higher Education Administration at The College of William and Mary. Earning a doctoral degree has been on my life list forever, and this program will give me some flexibility to do that in our military life. Who needs free time and extra money?
- In more exciting news, Mac and I are fully vaccinated! The Army had a delay getting new batches of the vaccine, so we both waited over 30 days for our second dose. I have to say that this was absolutely the most painful shot I’ve ever had, but I didn’t have any other side effects. And it’s done, so I don’t have to worry about it until the next season.
- Spring is springing here in West Texas. We decided to plant a few veggies in a planter the previous owners left behind. So far, my yellow squash is crushing it. My okra is barely hanging on. We also bought some Talavera planters for the front of the house to add in some color. I haven’t gardened since we left North Carolina (in 2013), so I’m hoping my thumb remembers how to be green. The cats are loving the hot, sunny afternoons and like to nap in the back window (our house faces west) every day. I’m loving the fact that I don’t have to wear a sweater in my office every day.
- And possibly the most exciting news of the month: Dr. Pepper launched a Zero line. It’s very similar to Dr. Pepper Ten. I’ve found regular, cream soda, and cherry versions of Dr. Pepper Zero, and I’m a fan of the regular and cherry. I’m not overly keen on cream soda in general. They’re worth a try if you’re a fellow Pepper fanatic. I also found a few strawberry flavored treats for the start of spring / Easter. The strawberry donut Oreos are pretty solid. They’re a golden cookie with a light, strawberry filling. They did have a bit of luster dust added (which was weird. Sparkly Oreos?). I also grabbed these strawberry shortcake Lofthouse cookies. Lofthouse cookies are my ultimate Kryptonite, so I had to try these. They weren’t bad, but they were a bit more crumbly than original Lofthouse cookies.
How has your spring been?

Congrats on starting a new adventure in grad school and gardening 🙂 I struggled to keep my garden alive once it got HOT in the South. I’m hoping to plant some veggies in a little mini garden this year. We are supposed to get some freezing temps this week so I’m waiting a little longer to plant.

Thank you! I’ve been watering every day to offset the heat. I think we may have planted a bit too earlier as the nights don’t warm up as quickly as they do in the South.
