What We’re Watching – Spring 2021
The days of March 2020 and the start of the pandemic feel like a lifetime ago. Remember when we were all obsessed with Tiger King? I’ve watched more TV in the past year than I have in a while, but I work from home and need background noise. I’m also trying to resist the siren’s call of Discovery+ because we just don’t need another streaming service.
Modern Family
This is our new binge-watch after work show. It’s genuinely laugh out loud funny (though, looking back at my previous posts, I saw lots of shows are laugh out loud funny). I love the characters, the plots, and the story lines that come back each season.
Poldark
Yet another sweeping historical drama (and also from Masterpiece). My father-in-law bought me the first three seasons for Christmas a few years ago. Amazon added the whole show to Prime, so I was able to watch all of the episodes. Overall, it’s totally soapy. Almost all of the episodes are the struggle of Ross doing the right thing while George does the wrong thing (and Demelza doing something). And you get at least one totally gratuitous shot of Aidan Turner shirtless each season. I didn’t mind it, but it was a bit repetitive for me.
Murder Among the Mormons
I watched this miniseries one day while working (and paid way more attention to it than work, whoops). It explores the sensational story of several murders in Utah during the 1980s. The people were all connected in the world of Mormon rare artifacts. Honestly, my theory about who did it was completely off base. If you’re a true crime junky, this should be right up your alley.
Soul
I also watched the newest Pixar film. It was honestly a bit different than what I was expecting. Soul was a lot more serious and dug deeper than most Disney / Pixar movies. It was touching and poignant, and I may have teared up a bit at the end.
