Building your blog following

I’ve been blogging for over six years. In that time, I have gone from wedding blogging to blogging multiple times to a day to not blogging for months. My page views definitely reflected how often (or little) I was posting. If you’re like me and are interested in using ads to create passive income, you need to focus on building your blog following.

Building your blog following

Post regularly

Regularly is what you decide. I would recommend posting the same number of times a week and on the same days of the week. You could post three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. You could post twice on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Just make sure that you can maintain your posting schedule on a regular basis. You don’t have to keep up your schedule every single week, but try to stick to it more often than not.

Be social

I’m a big believer that blogging is about building a community, not competition. Blogging has given me a group of friends that I’ve never met in person but that I have solid friendships with. I’ve also met some of my blogging friends in person. Comment on blogs and get to know other bloggers. Follow blogs that interest and engage you. Promote your blog and interact with people on social media. And don’t use social media just to drive people to your blog.

Join link-ups

I think link-ups aren’t quite as popular these days as they were 4-5 years ago, but they’re still a good way to drive traffic to your site. Focus on link-ups that match the content you’re posting, and be sure to visit (and follow) other blogs in the link-up. I’ve found some great blog friends through link-ups that I wouldn’t have found otherwise.

Create an email list

Do as a I say, not as I do. Yes, I’ve been blogging for almost seven years and don’t have an email list. It’s on my to-do list. An email list is the best way to keep your readers updated on your latest posts. Social media and blog readers (follow me on Bloglovin!) are great, but changes to algorithms and technical glitches can affect how many people see your posts. Sending your content directly in an email guarantees that the people who want to read your blog are getting your latest posts.

Be patient

Don’t expect to get 1,000 page views a month after three months of blogging. It may happen, it may not happen. Kudos to those bloggers who get 1,000 page views that quickly, but that isn’t what most people experience.
