Flagler College

Flagler College

Our hotel was also a few blocks away from Flagler College. We decided to explore the campus since it’s considered to be one of the most beautiful college campuses in the United States. The whole campus is walkable, a few square blocks in the heart of the more historic and touristy areas of the town. The level of detail in the architecture and décor in the original buildings make Flagler College a must see. Keep in mind that it is an active college campus, so some areas are off limits to non-students. Don’t try to enter any buildings that are just for students. If you want to see more, you can schedule a campus tour.

Henry Flagler built the Hotel de Ponce de Leon and most of St. Augustine back in the 1880s. The former hotel is extraordinary, as were many playgrounds of the rich and famous of the Gilded Age. Now known as Ponce de Leon Hall, you’ll find Tiffany windows and gilded ceilings in the lobby. Since it’s the original building on the campus, start here. You’ll find Ponce de Leon Hall at the corner of Cordova and King Streets.
