Just a kid from Fancy Gap

Today, for the first time in 29 years, Frank Beamer isn’t going to coach Virginia Tech’s next football game. After more than my lifetime of games spent patrolling the sidelines, Frank is hanging up his headphones. I wish I could put into words what Frank Beamer means to Virginia Tech. From his college days as an All-American to leading our team to seven conference championships and a national championship appearance, Frank is a living example of what a Hokie is. He is known as a class act, a man who cares about the man more than the player, and an all-around good guy. A man who loves his family and his team as his family. A man who played an important role in helping Virginia Tech become the school it is today. A man who led a team onto a field five months after a horrible tragedy and helped a campus and community begin to heal. All this from a kid from Fancy Gap, Virginia.

Thanks, Frank, for everything. I’m glad we managed to not blow it against Tulsa.
