As I mentioned, the McKinley Chalet Resort is a Holland America property. It is also made up of smaller buildings, but these rooms all have exterior entrances. Our room had a bedroom inside the front door, a bath, a back bedroom, and a beautiful river view. It started raining steadily right as we got to the resort. Again, we dropped off our stuff and headed out.
There really isn’t a town at the national park, but there are shops and restaurants across the highway. We decided to check those out because the park’s visitor’s center closed by them time we were ready to go (the park is open 24 hours, the buildings are not). After a bit of shopping, we grabbed dinner at the Lynx Creek Pizza on the Princess property (the resorts have a dining shuttle that will drive you to the other if you want to eat or explore there). Mac had a chicken bacon ranch pizza, and I had a sausage calzone. Both were fantastic, and the crust / dough was similar in thickness and style to Mellow Mushroom. On our way back to the McKinley Chalet Resort, we stopped at Denali Glacier Scoops and Gifts. Mac had a birthday cake milkshake, and I had a very tasty cup of black cherry vanilla ice cream.
